Tata Electronics Reports Cybersecurity Incident as Hackers Claim Data Leak

The company said operations remain unaffected after a cyber breach, while researchers reported that a ransomware-linked group had published thousands of files allegedly connected to Apple and Tesla projects.

Tata Electronics has confirmed that it recently experienced a cybersecurity incident after security researchers reported that a ransomware-linked group had published a large cache of data allegedly stolen from the company.

In a statement, Tata Electronics said it identified the breach several weeks ago and immediately activated its cybersecurity response protocols. The company added that the incident had no impact on its business operations, which continue to run normally.

According to researchers who examined the leaked material, the group known as World Leaks has uploaded more than 200,000 files to the dark web. The data reportedly includes emails, event logs, employee records, and technical documents that appear to be linked to customers including Apple and Tesla.

Sources familiar with the matter said Apple is investigating the incident and conducting a detailed review of the exposed information. The sources also indicated that Tata Electronics received a ransom demand related to the breach. Tata declined to comment on the ransom claim, while Apple and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.

Researchers reviewing the files said some documents appear to contain Apple-related manufacturing information, including component specifications and quality-control standards. Other files reportedly reference Tesla vehicle programs and include engineering drawings and technical documentation.

The authenticity of the leaked data has not been independently verified. World Leaks, which claimed responsibility for publishing the files, could not be reached for comment.

The breach comes at a time when Tata Electronics is playing an increasingly important role in Apple’s manufacturing strategy outside China. The company currently accounts for a substantial share of iPhone production in India and operates major facilities in Tamil Nadu.

Industry sources said Tata informed some employees involved in iPhone assembly operations about the breach last week.

The incident highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges facing global manufacturers and technology supply chains as cybercriminal groups increasingly target sensitive corporate and product-related information.
