GM adds $675 million to Brazil investment plan for hybrid vehicles, factory upgrades

General Motors has increased its Brazil investment plan by $675 million, boosting spending on hybrid vehicles, factory modernization and new technologies.

General Motors has announced an additional investment of 3.5 billion reais ($674.88 million) in Brazil, expanding its commitment to the country’s automotive sector and strengthening its hybrid vehicle strategy, Reuters reported.

The fresh investment raises GM’s total planned spending in Brazil to 10.5 billion reais through 2028, up from the 7 billion reais announced in 2024.

The company said most of the funds will be sent towards operations in Sao Paulo state, Brazil’s largest industrial hub. The investment will support production of hybrid vehicles, modernization of manufacturing facilities, and expansion of engineering capabilities.

GM said the funding will also help Chevrolet’s product portfolio renewal and help integrate new automotive technologies into future vehicle programs.

The company expects the investment to increase manufacturing efficiency and strengthen its position in Latin America’s largest auto market.

In a statement, GM said the initiative will also contribute to creating skilled jobs and improving the competitiveness of Brazil’s automotive industry.

The announcement comes as automakers continue increasing investments in hybrid and cleaner mobility technologies across major emerging markets, where demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is rising steadily.
