The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the telecom R&D arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed a deal with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) to strengthen indigenous research and innovation in next-generation communication technologies.
Under this partnership, C-DOT has established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Hyderabad. This will be its fourth such facility after similar centres at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Roorkee.
The new CoE will be dedicated to 5G Advanced and 6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication, AI-enabled communication networks, cybersecurity, and quantum and post-quantum communications.
The agenda behind this initiative is to create academia-industry collaboration by combining IIT Hyderabad’s research expertise with C-DOT’s experience in developing indigenous telecom solutions.
Through its skill development workshops and training programmes, the centre will help joint R&D projects, prototype development, startup incubation, intellectual property creation, and skill development.
During the inauguration, the deal was signed in the presence of IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. B. S. Murty and C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay.
The centre would help build globally competitive telecom technologies, Dr Upadhaya said, while Prof. Murty highlighted its role in strengthening India’s vision of technological leadership and self-reliance.
