Apple advances software updates to tackle rising AI-driven cybersecurity threats

Apple is rolling out software updates earlier than usual as AI accelerates cyber threats, aiming to reduce the time between vulnerability disclosure and patch deployment.

Apple is accelerating the release of software updates in response to growing cybersecurity risks linked to artificial intelligence, as faster AI-powered hacking tools reduce the window for addressing software vulnerabilities.

The company said it is moving away from its long-standing practice of bundling security fixes with major iOS updates. Instead, certain security patches will now be released earlier to ensure users receive protections faster.

According to Reuters, Apple is responding to concerns that AI is helping cybercriminals identify and exploit software flaws more quickly, increasing pressure on companies to close security gaps faster.

The change marks a notable shift in Apple’s software release strategy. Traditionally, security fixes were rolled into broader iOS upgrades, such as moving from one version to another. Apple said the latest security updates are now being made available ahead of the wider rollout of iOS 26.6.

The company noted there is currently no evidence that the newly patched vulnerabilities have been actively exploited. However, Apple emphasized that reducing the time between public disclosure of security flaws and deployment of patches to users has become increasingly important.

The move reflects a broader industry trend, as major technology companies adapt cybersecurity strategies to counter evolving AI-driven threats.
