Tata Power Plans New Solar Manufacturing Unit in Odisha, Eyes Clean Energy-Led Growth

The company will expand its solar manufacturing footprint in Odisha as it targets higher renewable capacity, battery storage and a stronger clean energy ecosystem by 2030.

Tata Power will set up a new solar manufacturing facility in Odisha in the upcoming months as it expands investments across the clean energy value chain, according to The Hindu BusinessLine, citing Chairman N. Chandrasekaran‘s address at the company’s annual general meeting.

The project will strengthen Tata Power‘s domestic solar manufacturing capabilities as India pushes its transition towards renewable energy. The company currently has more than 26 GW of generation capacity, including projects under development, with nearly 66% of its portfolio comprising clean and green energy.

During FY26, Tata Power commissioned around 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity and has another 5.1 GW under execution. It is also widening its energy storage portfolio through the 1 GW Bhivpuri and 1.8 GW Shirwata pumped storage projects.

“India is moving towards a cleaner, greener and more decentralised energy system,” Chandrasekaran said. He added that renewable energy is expected to account for nearly two-thirds of the country’s installed power capacity by 2030, while increasing electricity demand from artificial intelligence, data centres and cooling needs will generate and increase investments in renewable energy, storage and grid infrastructure.

Tata Power is also planning a 10 GW solar manufacturing project in Odisha, targeting US$11.6 billion in revenue and US$1.16 billion in profit after tax by 2030, while exploring opportunities in nuclear power, battery storage and transmission infrastructure.
