Tamil Nadu, Hitachi Sign MoU to Expand Manufacturing and Technology Operations

The agreement will support the expansion of Hitachi’s facilities in Porur and Chengalpattu, creating around 1,000 high-skilled jobs over the next five years.

The Tamil Nadu government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hitachi Energy Technology Services Pvt. Ltd. to expand the company’s facilities in Porur, Chennai, and Hitachi Energy India Ltd.’s manufacturing unit in Chengalpattu.

According to The Times of India, the projects involve an investment of approximately US$116 million and are expected to create around 1,000 high-skilled technology jobs over the next three to five years. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai.

The investment will be used to develop Hitachi Group’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Porur while increasing manufacturing operations at the Chengalpattu facility. Hitachi Group, a Fortune 500 company, will execute the projects through its two Indian subsidiaries.

The expansion is expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem and reinforce the state’s position as a preferred destination for high-value technology investments.
