India’s electric vehicle registrations climbed 63.2 per cent year-on-year in July to over 307,000 units, with electric two-wheelers accounting for more than 60 per cent of total sales.
India’s electric vehicle (EV) market maintained its strong growth trajectory in July 2026, with registrations climbing 63.2 per cent year-on-year to 307,752 units, driven primarily by robust demand for electric two-wheelers, according to a report by JMK Research & Analytics. Monthly registrations also edged up 0.7 per cent from 305,566 units recorded in June.
Electric two-wheelers remained the dominant segment, accounting for 61.4 per cent of all EV registrations during the month. Passenger electric three-wheelers followed with a 23.7 per cent share, while electric passenger vehicles contributed 10 per cent. Electric cargo three-wheelers represented the remaining 3.8 per cent of registrations.
The passenger electric car segment posted particularly strong annual growth, with registrations rising 81 per cent year-on-year to 30,806 units. However, volumes slipped about 2 per cent compared with June. EV penetration in the passenger vehicle category increased to 7.92 per cent, reflecting the gradual shift toward electric mobility. Industry analysts attribute the momentum to a broader range of vehicle models, expanding charging infrastructure, and improving consumer confidence.
Electric three-wheelers also recorded healthy gains. Registrations reached 84,554 units in July, up 22 per cent from a year earlier and 9 per cent higher than the previous month. The segment continues to benefit from lower operating costs, better financing options, and favourable economics for commercial fleet operators. EV penetration in the three-wheeler category recovered to 65.55 per cent during the month.
State-wise, Uttar Pradesh led the country with 47,062 EV registrations, followed by Maharashtra at 36,642 units and Karnataka with 29,183 units. Together, the top ten states accounted for nearly 77 per cent of total EV registrations, highlighting that adoption remains concentrated in India’s largest automotive markets.
The latest figures underscore the continued expansion of India’s EV ecosystem, supported by growing model availability, improved charging infrastructure, and rising consumer acceptance across multiple vehicle segments.
