India, Japan to Deepen Semiconductor and AI Cooperation During Goyal’s Visit 

Dedicated semiconductor and AI discussions will anchor Piyush Goyal’s Japan visit, with India seeking greater Japanese investment and technology partnerships.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Japan from 24 to 27 August, leading a delegation of more than 200 Indian business representatives for discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-technology industries.

The visit will cover Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka and comes as India and Japan seek to deepen collaboration in advanced manufacturing, technology and investment.

In Tokyo, Goyal will participate in dedicated discussions on semiconductors and AI, alongside meetings with senior executives of major Japanese companies. He will also hold a roundtable with Keidanren, Japan’s leading business federation, which represents more than 1,500 Japanese companies. The discussions are expected to explore opportunities for Japanese investment and technology partnerships in India’s emerging technology ecosystem.

The minister will also meet Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa Ryosei, as well as senior government and parliamentary representatives. Engagements with foreign institutional investors and start-ups are also planned.

In Nagoya, the delegation will engage with companies and industry bodies in one of Japan’s major manufacturing centres. While the discussions will cover automotive and steel, the broader engagement is expected to support India-Japan cooperation in advanced manufacturing and technology-intensive industries.

The visit will conclude in Osaka with an investors and business roadshow and meetings with Japanese companies in electronics and industrial sectors. The engagements will highlight opportunities emerging from India’s expanding electronics and high-tech manufacturing ecosystem.

Japan has been a major partner for India in technology, investment and industrial development. Japanese companies already have a presence across India’s automotive, electronics and infrastructure sectors, while both countries are looking to build stronger supply-chain links in strategic technologies.

The visit comes as India accelerates efforts to develop domestic semiconductor manufacturing, packaging and electronics capabilities. Greater Japanese participation could support investment, technology collaboration and supply-chain development across India’s semiconductor and broader technology ecosystem.
