Renesas Opens Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing

The new facility follows the establishment of Renesas’ Physical AI Division, reinforcing the company’s focus on physical AI as a long-term growth opportunity.

Renesas Electronics Corporation has officially opened its new Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, China, aimed at helping customers demonstrate, validate and jointly develop next-generation robotic systems.

The dedicated facility will serve as a hub for Renesas’ physical AI strategy, supporting the development journey from proof-of-concept to large-scale deployment. The lab integrates hardware, software, AI modelling, control, sensing, power management and system-level verification to support the complete engineering process.

Physical AI represents the next phase of AI development, where intelligence moves beyond digital environments into systems that can perceive, make decisions and act in the physical world in real time. Robotics, particularly humanoid robots, is a key application of physical AI and requires the seamless integration of embedded processing, sensing, actuation, power management, software and development tools.

The new facility follows the establishment of Renesas’ Physical AI Division on July 1, 2026, reinforcing the company’s focus on physical AI as a long-term growth opportunity.

“Humanoid robots are becoming more sophisticated and complex, driving demand for hardware and software systems that must work together seamlessly,” said Ivo Marocco, Vice President and Head of UX at Renesas. “Today, Renesas can address roughly 30% of the humanoid robot BOM, and we see an opportunity to expand that coverage to 70% through our strengths in control, power, sensing, AI, software and ecosystem solutions.”

The new lab will help customers validate complete systems and accelerate the deployment of next-generation robotics innovations.

Renesas said China continues to play a major role in robotics innovation and adoption, supported by a large customer base, collaborative ecosystem and comprehensive supply chain. Yvonne Liu, Vice President and President of Renesas China, said the company will leverage the Beijing lab to collaborate with customers, ecosystem partners, universities and startups to accelerate the engineering implementation of physical AI systems.

The lab is designed to go beyond product demonstrations by supporting validation and co-development of complete robotics solutions. It will connect customer requirements with ecosystem resources and Renesas’ technology capabilities throughout the development and deployment process.

Renesas’ physical AI and humanoid robotics portfolio covers key system domains including brain and motion control, sensing, actuation and power management. The company is combining these technologies with its experience in automotive and industrial applications, functional safety, edge AI and Renesas 365, its cloud-based electronics development platform, to help customers develop safer, smarter and more scalable robotic systems.
