Rohde & Schwarz Launches AI/ML Design Center in Bengaluru, Eyes Chip Design

Engineering solutions developed in Bengaluru will support Rohde & Schwarz products across its global business divisions

Rohde & Schwarz has announced the launch of a new AI/ML Design Center at its Bengaluru facility, marking an expansion of the company’s engineering capabilities in India and reinforcing its “Make in India, for the world” strategy.

The announcement was made by Christian Leicher, President & CEO, Rohde & Schwarz. The new center will focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced semiconductor design, while the company is also preparing to take the next step towards chip design within its existing Bengaluru campus.

The expansion is expected to create several new high-technology roles over the next two to three years. Rohde & Schwarz said the initiative will leverage India’s growing pool of AI/ML and semiconductor engineering talent to develop solutions and, in the future, chips in India for its global operations.

With this move, the company aims to position India not only as a key market but also as an important source of engineering and technology development for its worldwide product portfolio.

“India is a key part of our long-term global strategy. With this expansion, we’re investing directly in the country’s exceptional young talent in AI, machine learning, and semiconductor design — talent we believe will shape our technology roadmap for years to come,” said Christian Leicher.

The new initiative builds on Rohde & Schwarz’s established R&D presence in Bengaluru. The company operates two R&D centers in India, in Bengaluru and New Delhi, working across areas including wireless communications, test and measurement, and secure communications.

The Bengaluru expansion will add silicon-level design capabilities to the existing engineering portfolio, bringing chip development and systems engineering closer together at the same location.

Rohde & Schwarz India currently has more than 500 employees. Its operations span test and measurement solutions for sectors including aerospace and defence, wireless communications, automotive, semiconductor and industrial electronics manufacturing, as well as research and education.

The company’s Technology Systems portfolio also covers government and defence applications, including radiomonitoring systems, secure and jam-resistant communications, and AI-based security scanners using microwave imaging technology.
