India Clears ₹1100 Billion Defence Electronics Procurement

The DAC has cleared ₹1100 billion in defence acquisitions, with 98% earmarked for Indian industry, boosting domestic demand for radars, electronic warfare, RFID and other strategic electronics.

India is opening a major domestic market for defence-electronics manufacturers, with the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, clearing capital acquisition proposals worth around ₹1.10 lakh crore. Approximately 98% of the procurement is planned from Indian industry.

The package includes Arudhra radars, Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers, electronic warfare systems and RFID-based Defence Forces Secure Access Card systems, creating demand across radar, RF, signal processing, communications, electronic warfare and secure-ID technologies.

The Indian Navy will procure Arudhra radars to replace existing Air Route Surveillance Radars at various Naval Air Stations. The DAC has also approved the design and development of Marine Gas Turbines, with indigenous development expected to reduce dependence on foreign vendors.

For the Air Force, Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers will provide capabilities to disrupt adversary radar systems. Meanwhile, interoperable RFID-based smart cards will replace paper-based identity cards and passes across the defence forces.

The Army will receive CBRN Recce Vehicles (Tracked) Mk-II, based on the BMP-II platform, for detecting, identifying, monitoring and marking CBRN-contaminated areas. DRDO describes the vehicle as a platform capable of performing these functions while transmitting information to supported formations.

The package also includes the DRDO-designed, BEML-produced Sarvatra Multispan Mobile Bridging System, capable of spanning obstacles up to 75m.

The approvals reinforce India’s push to build domestic capabilities across defence electronics and strategic subsystems while reducing import dependence. In July, the DAC had approved another ₹52,000 crore package including AKASH TARANG, MPATGM, MRSAM and V-SHORADS systems.
