The world’s top contract chipmaker posts a 53 per cent surge in August sales as advanced production lines remain fully booked.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue in August, propelled by sustained global demand for artificial intelligence processors.
The world’s largest contract chipmaker generated NT$514.8 billion last month, marking a 53.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year and a 10.1 per cent rise from July. The figures mark four consecutive months of revenue growth for the firm.
During its second-quarter earnings presentation in July, TSMC highlighted “extremely robust” demand for AI-related technology. The Taiwanese firm reported a quarterly profit jump of over 77 per cent year-on-year and projected third-quarter revenue to fall between $44.6 billion and $45.8 billion.
According to data from market research firm TrendForce, TSMC extended its dominance of the global foundry market, capturing a 72.5 per cent share in the second quarter. Strong orders for AI server processors kept the company’s advanced 3-, 4-, and 5-nanometre manufacturing capacity operating at full tilt. Samsung Foundry ranked a distant second with a 5.9 per cent market share, followed by China’s SMIC at 5.4 per cent.
Driven by supply constraints for high-performance computing components, the top 10 global foundries generated a combined record revenue of nearly $53.49 billion during the second quarter.
Separately, TSMC and Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML announced a partnership to push forward next-generation manufacturing technology. TSMC plans to integrate ASML’s advanced High NA extreme ultraviolet systems into high-volume production from 2030 onwards to support increasingly complex AI chip designs.
TSMC shares closed down 0.61 per cent on Thursday prior to the financial release.
