SiCSem to Set Up Rs 3,406 Crore SiC Semiconductor Facility in Odisha

The proposed facility will come up at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district

Odisha is set to get a major semiconductor manufacturing facility with an investment of Rs 3,406.25 crore, following approval from the Unit Approval Committee (UAC) of Falta Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The approval was granted during the 217th meeting of the UAC for a proposal submitted by SiCSem Private Limited, a Tamil Nadu-based company.

The proposed facility will come up at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district and will operate under the jurisdiction of Falta SEZ. The project will be spread across 21.889 acres and will manufacture silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, including SiC diodes and SiC MOSFETs.

The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 3,406.25 crore and will be funded through a Rs 700 crore central government capital subsidy, Rs 350 crore from the Odisha government, and Rs 1,956.25 crore from the promoters.

The facility is projected to generate export turnover of around Rs 7,043 crore over the next five years, along with net foreign exchange earnings of approximately Rs 4,523 crore during the same period.

The project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities for advanced SiC semiconductor devices and contribute to the country’s export-oriented high-technology manufacturing ecosystem.

The approval also adds to Odisha’s emerging semiconductor ecosystem and brings capital-intensive semiconductor device manufacturing to the state.
