The Swedish OEM expands local manufacturing ecosystem, turning India into an export hub for 5G and AI-ready antenna systems.
Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson has announced plans to scale up local manufacturing of antennas and advanced network equipment in India, marking the first time the company will export made-in-India gear to major international markets, including Europe.
Unveiled at the India Mobile Congress 2026, Ericsson revealed that its local supply chain has already produced over 15,000 antennas and 25 million network components since July 2025. The high-performance antenna portfolio is engineered to support 5G Standalone architectures, AI-driven network management, and future programmable communications infrastructure.
Highlighting the strategic weight of the expansion, Andres Vicente, Chief Executive Officer for Southeast Asia, Oceania and India at Ericsson, stated: “India is an important part of Ericsson’s global innovation, engineering and manufacturing footprint. The production of more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components shows how quickly this ecosystem is developing and the contribution it can make both in India and globally.”
The initiative strengthens India’s position as a global telecommunications export hub, directly aligning with New Delhi’s domestic manufacturing incentives. By combining local component sourcing with global engineering capabilities, Ericsson aims to improve spectrum efficiency, boost uplink capacity, and reduce overall network energy consumption for communications service providers.
Emphasising the technological shift, Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, noted: “We are building an end-to-end antenna ecosystem that combines local sourcing and manufacturing with Ericsson’s global engineering capabilities. As networks become more intelligent and programmable, antenna performance will be increasingly important in getting the most from spectrum, sites and network investments.”
