thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology is expanding automotive electronics and software R&D in Pune, planning to grow its engineering team beyond 300 to support global programmes in embedded systems, cybersecurity and software-defined mobility.
thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology has inaugurated an engineering centre in Pune to expand global R&D in automotive electronics, embedded systems, cybersecurity and software-defined mobility. The company plans to grow its workforce from more than 120 engineers to over 300 in the coming years.
The centre will support international customer programmes, with teams working on hardware, software, systems engineering, functional safety and advanced chassis technologies, including next-generation steering systems. Pune-based engineers will collaborate with global development teams throughout the development lifecycle.
“The transformation of the automotive industry is increasingly driven by software, electronics and globally connected engineering teams. With our new engineering center in Pune, we are strengthening precisely these capabilities and creating additional development capacity for our customers worldwide. India offers an outstanding pool of engineering and software talent and will play an increasingly important role in our global development network,” said Viktor Molnar, COO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology.
The company is integrating the Pune facility into its global R&D network, combining Indian engineering expertise with international technology capabilities to expand development and serve customers worldwide.
Beyond R&D, India is becoming a more important sourcing centre for the business. The company is also establishing a sales team in Pune to strengthen ties with Indian automotive manufacturers and pursue domestic opportunities.
Local manufacturing is a possibility, subject to securing suitable customer projects; no production investment has been confirmed. The centre, located at Solitaire Business Hub 2 in Pune’s Baner-Balewadi district, was first announced in 2025.
