Monday, July 1, 2013: The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation have been given a go ahead for the joint schemes for solar power in the state. This approval was given this Thursday by the UP cabinet. There is also an official statement that hints at an MOU being signed between the two agencies for further progress in the field. The first of the activities of this joint venture would be a 100 MW solar plant to come up in Kalpi in Jalaun district.
For the Kalpi plant, the UPNEDA has recognized a 267.47 hectare of non-agricultural land in the area and the installation would thus be carried out by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The total estimated cost of the project would be somewhere close to Rs 400 crore and it is also expected that within a span of 14-15 months from now, the plant would become completely operational. In the first phase of the project only 111.32 hectares would be used to set up a capacity of 50 MW.
The shares for the plant would be divided between the NHPC and the UPNEDA. A variety of models have already proposed about the sale of the resulting power produce from the plant. As a joint venture company, it is free to choose any power sale model for itself.
In a similar decision, the UP cabinet also had approved seven companies bidding for 200 MW capacity projects under UPNEDA Solar Energy Policy, 2013.
