Wednesday, August 21, 2013: The Government of India is making efforts to fast track the process of establishing centres of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Northeast India. According to J Satyanarayana, Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEIT), Government of India, about 15 centres have already been established in the northeast region under Government of India’s project to improve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training and education in the northeast, for which Rs 3880 million was disbursed, The Economic Times reported.
But, the plan of the Ministry is to establish at least 20 centres in the northeast region. They wish to train at least 15,000 students each year through short and long term courses in the field of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology.
NIELIT has received assurance for support from the Assam government in establishing the permanent campus of the Guwahati city centre of NIELIT at Sonapur, which is supposed to be located at the outskirts of the city.
This move of the government will help students in getting the required training in the field of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology on right time. These centres will help in shaping the future of the northeast region, where such training is required by the students on a priority basis.
