Thursday, May 29, 2014: Danish group Danfoss hailed as a global heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems major is looking to set up a 1 MW solar power plant at its upcoming facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The project will entail an investment of Rs 60 million and is part of Danfoss’s global plan of reducing its carbon footprint by almost 25 per cent through the use of renewable energy to the same extent by the year 2025.
“The Rs 60 million solar power plant with a five-year pay-back will satisfy 10 per cent of our energy needs. The project will go on stream when our new plant starts operations by September/October,” Danfoss India president Ravichandran Purushothaman was quoted by IANS as saying. Danfoss has a turnover of 4,509 million euros and is known to manufacture products that save energy and reduce emissions. These are used in processes like cooling food, air conditioning, heating buildings and so on. “As the panels are mounted on factory rooftops it takes off sizeable heat and saves on power spent on our air conditioning,” Purushothaman added.
Further, Danfoss is looking to expand its distribution network in India in order to take advantage of demand from smaller towns. “Though we primarily sell our products to big air conditioning companies we see demand from smaller towns where some cold storage projects are executed by small players,” Purushothaman said.
