Monday, November 17, 2014: PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative seems to have spread a drift across the globe. As a result of it, many foreign players have expressed their interest in setting up the manufacturing units here. One among them is China based solar photovoltaic module manufacturer, Trina Solar, who have announced their plans to set up solar PV module production facilities in India.
CEO Zhiguo Zhu announced the plans at the World Economic Forum, which recently took place in Delhi.
Reportedly, the Chinese solar photovoltaic module manufacturers had witnessed anti-dumping investigations from almost all leading solar power markets from Australia to the US. Its noteworthy that only two weeks ago Indian government had announced about its decision of not implementing anti-dumping duties on imported solar PV modules and instead had planned to use the domestic solar PV modules by setting up major projects via govt. owned companies.
In order to escape these anti-dumping duties Zhu told that the company is eyeing to have at least 20-30 per cent of the total production from outside China.
Zhu expressed his views regarding the ‘Make In India’ campaign. Though, he was positive about the entire initiative but at the same time he even noted that if Indian government would make the regulations simpler and clearer, more of international companies would show their interest to invest in the country.
Trina Solar is one of the popular brands amongst India’s solar PV project developers. Among the total of 2.7 GW of solar power capacity operational in India, Trina had supplied modules for over 280 MW capacity.
