Saturday, November 29, 2014: Taiwanese businesses in line with their plans for industrial collaboration with India have extended their partnership with Indian companies on a unique ‘Original brand manufacturer’ (OBM) model. Under this model, Taiwanese companies will set up manufacturing units in India and would thereby allow the Indian partners to put their brands on the products made here.
These products with the respective Indian brand names will be marketed within India. The company is also planning to provide marketing support to the Indian brands in other global markets. The initiative falls in line with the PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative which invites foreign players to manufacture their products in India.
A 25-member Taiwan Industrial Collaboration Mission is visiting India to discuss about this issue with the Indian industry and government officials. The areas identified for the OBM initiative includes electronics, ship building and textiles. The industrial mission came to Gujarat on 23 November to meet senior Minister and officials of Gujarat government.
Among the 25-member industrial mission, seven were from different economic ministries of Taiwan and others were the chief executives of companies representing different segments like electronics, ship building and textiles.
They also went to the Sanand industrial park in Gujarat and were completely satisfied about the facilities there. The Taiwanese official said that the memorandum of understanding would be inked in the upcoming Gujarat programme.
David Hsu, deputy director general, bureau of foreign trade, ministry of economic affairs, Taiwan said that they are even open to have tie-ups more Indian companies in other states as well. While in the second stage of the industrial collaboration they may opt for auto components and solar cells for collaboration.
