Suzlon to expand operations in Indian solar market

Monday, December 22, 2014: India’s first and world’s fifth largest wind turbine energy maker, Suzlon is now planning to extend its operations in other segments as well. The company is willing to broaden its portfolio whilst exploring the possibilities to expand in solar market. After the second generation of Tanti family took over the business, the company has starting reorienting by expanding its areas of operations.

Tulsi Tanti, founder and chief executive officer of Suzlon believes that the company need to consolidate, achieve more growth and also needs to invest in technology in order to bring the cost of energy down. He noted that they are not looking for any acquisition, perhaps are now focusing on the need of solar energy. He added that there is no company in India which is providing end-to-end solutions in solar power and thus aspires to provide its customers both wind and solar parks by the next financial year.

The company’s executive noted that over four sites across India have been identified for the solar power generation, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. He said that the solar power projects of 50MW would be developed across each of these sites. Suzlon’s revenue had gone up by 16 per cent and the volumes have grown up by 96 per cent in the Indian market during the first half of 2014-15.
