Feburary 16, 2015: The Indian government has set a target of taking the exports of telecom products and services to Rs 620 billion in the next five years. Currently, the figure stands at around Rs 320 billion, out of which Rs 200 billion is from products and equipment while the rest Rs 120 billion is from services. The aim of the government is to grow the exports of the telecom sector at a rate of 25 per cent CAGR. Commenting on this, telecom secretary Rakesh Garg said, “We are targeting that exports of telecom products and services should cross Rs 620 billion in the next five years.”
The government is already putting in efforts to reduce imports of electronic products by boosting the domestic production with the help of various sops being given out to these companies. According to reports, Garg has pointed out the fact that the country’s inability to develop and provide world-class telecom equipments is turning out to be an advantage for global players as they are providing the same at low costs. He also stressed on the fact that long-term partnerships need to be built between overseas buyers and Indian companies, keeping in view the continuous technological changes taking place in the telecom sector.
