The Indian Communications Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad stated on Tuesday, 1 March that the government has received proposals worth Rs 120,294 crore for electronics manufacturing till now.
He also said that when the government had come into force in June 2014, the proposals in electronics manufacturing amounted to merely Rs 11,800 crore. However, now it has increased to a great extent. He said that till Monday, 29 February, they had received proposals worth Rs 120,294 crore and they have given their consent to projects valuing to Rs 18,000 crore.
Prasad also pointed out that there was a production of 5.4 crore mobile phone units in 2014-15 and the figure has more than doubled in 2015-16 to 11 crore. The minister also highlighted his views regarding the budget and said that the domestic makers of routers, broadband modems, set-top boxes, digital video recorders, network video recorders, CCTV camera, lithium-ion battery would benefit from a duty advantage of 8.5 per cent in comparison to imported goods.
He further added that domestic value addition in mobile phones, battery, wired headsets would benefit from a duty advantage of 10.5 per cent in comparison to imported goods.
