Optomec, a global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D printed metals and 3D printed electronics announced that it has received a very big order for its advanced Aerosol Jet 5X printing system.
The orders are from leading names in consumer electronics, industrial, healthcare, aerospace as well as defense. These industries will be utilising their systems for manufacturing 3D printed electronics for smart devices used in Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The advanced Aerosol Jet 5X system has been specifically created for enabling a new generation of lighter weight, high performance smart devices for consumer as well as industrial Internet of Things applications.
Smart devices which require closely integrated 3D antennas, sensors and other circuitry have become a common feature within the automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, defense, healthcare, and power generation industries. These applications are expected to grow in a big way in the next 10 years.
The Aerosol Jet 5X System offers a flexible and cost effective manner of manufacturing these integrated electronics over a range of plastic, ceramic and metal 3D structures.
According to Steve Cynock, Senior AME Senior Electrical Process Engineer at GE Healthcare Systems, “With the Aerosol Jet 5X system we expect to iterate quickly to provide optimized 3D printed electronic solutions enabling engineers to create smaller, lighter, and more efficient products.”
Through the utilisation of patented material input and aerodynamic deposition capabilities, the advanced printer is capable of printing feature sizes which vary from 10 microns on up to millimeters in width. The printer can support a broad range of functional materials which include conductive inks, dielectrics, polymers and adhesives. It is capable of depositing these materials on low temperature substrates for enabling various applications. The technology is scalable for meeting high volume production requirements.
