India is planning to partner Singapore to enhance skill development in the country. In a recently concluded seminar held in Singapore, Piyush Goyal, Minister, Coal, Power and Renewable Energy said that he visited Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and discussed a possible collaboration with ITE in setting up 21 centres across India as part of the government’s “Skill Development” initiative.
Skill development is a big concern for India as the country wants to become one of the major manufacturing destinations in the country. Technically skilled labour is one of the primary worries and with this initiative it can be expected that India will get to learn a lot of skills from Singalorean counterparts.
Goyal was on a one-day visit to Singapore, leading a high- power delegation from the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Singapore manufacturing Federation will also be participating in two exhibitions in July, AMTEX in New Delhi and Last Mile Fullfilment India in Mumbai.
According to George Abraham, FICCI regional representative in Singapore, “Coming from the manufacturing industry, this augurs well for the Make in India initiative.”
India has recently tied up with South Africa for skill development initiative.
