Telit looks for distribution partners in India

Telit Communications, a wireless technology company, is looking for partnerships with design engineering firms and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to expand its business in India. Recently, the company announced its official launch in the country, with offices in Delhi and Bengaluru. “We are looking for associations with OEMs and design engineering firms, who are looking to develop applications using our communication modules,” says Ashish Gulati, country manager, India operations.

“Telit develops, manufactures and markets GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSPA, CDMA and short range communication modules such as Zigbee and RF modules for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications,” he adds. Telit promises to provide strong technical support to design engineers and OEMs. K J Lee, marketing director, APAC, says, “Telit already has a global technical support system known as the Technical Support Forum. This is an online forum where design engineers can leave their queries, which are answered by our technical support staff within a given time. Any design engineer can go to the website and leave any M2M related query. Apart from this global platform, there is a technical support centre at Bengaluru, which OEMs and design engineering houses can approach for any technical help with our communication modules.”

Every communication module of Telit has a set of technical documents with it, which include specifications, hardware design guidelines, software design guidelines and application notes. Says Ashish Gulati, “There are four sectors that we are primarily focusing on in India. These are: automated meter reading (AMR), telematics, telemetry and the point of sales market. We will partner with design engineers working on projects in these domains. Apart from design engineers, we are looking for specialised distribution partners. The company plans to increase its distributor and channel network from the present two distributors to five in the next 3-5 years.”

To increase its penetration in the Indian market, Telit will also provide hands-on training to design engineers. “We have plans to conduct training sessions and seminars for design engineers. The first seminar is likely to be conducted in November this year. More such events will follow, depending upon our market reach and needs,” says Ashish Gulati. The company plans to increase its reach by investing in direct and indirect technical expertise that will help nurture the evolution of the M2M market in India.
