Mahindra Treo has debuted in India and is said to be the country’s first indigenously built electric three-wheeler. The electric vehicle claims to be useful for the ones who wish to increase their savings. Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric said that the modular vehicle that comes in the form of auto and rickshaw can save more than 20 per cent for its owner.

The Mahindra rickshaw, Yaari e-Rickshaw and the electric auto, Mahindra Treo are priced at Rs. 1.36 lakh and Rs. 2.22 lakh respectively. Commenting on the occasion, Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra and Chairman, Mahindra Electric, said that the company had been investing in electric vehicles and the new launches would boost the EV adoption in the coming months. He added that Mahindra Treo was aimed at offering a safer and reliable mode of transport in comparison to the existing e-rickshaws in cities like Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The running cost is kept at 50 paise per kilometre.

Mahindra has inaugurated its first electric technology manufacturing hub in Bengaluru as part of its Rs. 100 crores investment plan. The unit has a modular assembly from which the company plans to roll out its electric vehicles. The unit has a capacity of about 25,000 currently.

The electric auto comes in 4 variants and reportedly has better torsional rigidity and bending stiffness adding to overall safety. The digital dashboard provides data related to real-time battery data and optional hardtop on top variants. A 24-month or 50,000 km warranty has been offered by Mahindra Treo.
