Siemens Gets ₹20 Crores Funding For Its Bengaluru Medical Imaging Unit

  • The new facility will make computed tomography (CT) systems based on the trendsetting Somatom go.platform
  • The unit is ISO13485 (2016) certified and operations will start immediately in this unit with 70 employees
  • Going forward the workforce is expected to be extended in three phases by the fiscal year 2025

Siemens Medical Group has set up a new medical imaging manufacturing facility in Bangalore, strategically co-located with the company’s R&D center to deliver value to customers faster.

The 20-crore investment in the 53,819-sq ft manufacturing facility builds on the 2,500 crore invested in the R&D centre so far, underscoring the company’s commitment to India. The new unit is ISO13485 (2016) certified and operations will start immediately in this unit with 70 employees. However, going forward the workforce is expected to be extended in three phases by the fiscal year 2025. 

Andre Hartung, executive vice-president – Computed Tomography, and incoming president – Diagnostic Imaging of Siemens Healthineers said to The Hindu Business Line that the new facility will make computed tomography (CT) systems based on the trendsetting Somatom go.platform that Siemens co-created with 500 customers in 11 countries.

Hartung further informed that Siemens will also make the Cios Fit, the organisation’s latest mobile C-arm which was created to address the tough demands of India with high patient loads and the need to perform multiple procedures.

Technology upgrades for better performance
The new Somatom go.platform integrates multiple software with the company’s detector technologies to achieve improved workflow efficiency, more clinical applicability, enhanced patient experience and financial affordability for healthcare providers. The Cios Fit, designed, developed and manufactured in India, delivers images on a touchscreen monitor. The system is user-friendly and has fewer moving parts for higher reliability.

Aiming for more business
Siemens is aiming to sell 200 units of the Somatom go.Now CT scanners in India this year. Each unit costs around €1,25,000 which comes with a pre-installed base of 350 units. The company intends to start selling the Cios Fit priced around €20,000 in India and then take it to international markets in the next 12-18 months.
