With the 5G spectrum auction taking forward strides in India, a top Dell Technologies India executive said on Sunday that the company expects to witness a sooner than expected commencement of accelerated 5G infrastructure deployment, which would serve both urban and rural areas. The VP and GM of Infrastructure Solutions Group of Dell Technologies India, Manish Gupta opines that such an advancement would benefit multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and e-commerce by giving way to the early adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), robotics and edge computing. The intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 would result in a significant improvement in quality while simultaneously cutting down the manufacturing and other costs.
According to Gupta, “As enterprises look to bring more and more of their applications to the public cloud, they’ll also need enterprise-grade solutions and services for their workloads that are integrated with their on-premises infrastructure stacks.” He underscored the importance of Data Analytics, AI and Machine Learning (ML), whose penetration into newer markets will result in more precise, real-time, and predictive analytics and therefore, better and data-driven decisions for businesses.
Though the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India are looking towards driving revenue growth, they are generally found uneager to invest in IT infrastructure solutions. And as 5G creeps in, their resilient journey to Cloud infrastructure is an inevitable necessity.
“MSMEs require flexibility to manage workloads — upgrading existing IT infrastructure by raising their capabilities to manage future workloads will give them the edge over competition, offer optimal services to customers and strengthen their relationships with partners in the age of digital transformation,” Gupta said.
While the world is apace with the trials and early commercialisation of 5G infra, Indian network operators like Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, etc, have also partnered with vendors like Samsung and Ericsson for trials.
