The proposed solar park will produce 200 million kWh of annual power, reducing fossil fuel dependence
In a major leap, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd announced a solar plant partnership with steel manufacturer Viraj Profile Pvt Ltd. Under the deal, Tata will install a 100-MW captive solar power plant for the Indian steel maker in Nandgaon Nashik, a town in the state of Maharashtra. The PV farm will power Viraj Profile’s production site in nearby Tarapur. Tata Power claims that this project will make Viraj one of the first Indian firms to use solar electricity to supply their manufacturing.
While Tata Power will own 74% of this venture, Viraj will get the remaining 26%. As per the reports, Viraj will be able to half its reliance on non-renewable power sources with the help of this project.
A subsidiary of Indian power producer and solar equipment manufacturer Tata Power Co Ltd, Tata Power Renewable Energy said that it will implement the current project through TP Nanded Ltd, a special purpose vehicle.
Once operational in July 2023, the solar farm is estimated to provide 200 million kWh of annual power while reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 170 tonnes.
