India’s personal computer (PC) market recorded its strongest year in 2025, with shipments rising 12.5% year on year to 15.9 million units, according to research firm Omdia. The growth was driven by notebooks, which reached 12.3 million units, up 15.2%, while desktop shipments increased 4% to 3.6 million units.

In the final quarter (Q4) of the calendar year 2025, shipments rose 17% to 4 million units. Notebook demand accounted for most of this, climbing 22% to 3.2 million units, supported by festive sales, online promotions, and retail inventory push.

On the other hand, desktop shipments grew 2% to 871,000 units, reflecting steady enterprise and institutional procurement. The tablet market also expanded modestly in Q4, rising 3% to 1.1 million units, as consumer demand offset weaker education deployments.

Despite the strong year, the tablet market declined 18% overall in 2025, shipping 4.9 million units. The fall was largely due to delays in government-led education programmes.

Excluding education volumes, however, tablets grew 12.8%, driven by consumer demand. The commercial tablet segment dropped 52%, while consumer shipments rose 21% on the back of promotions and festive campaigns.

Looking ahead, Omdia forecasts a 9.8% decline in PC shipments in 2026, to 14.3 million units, as rising component costs and supply pressures affect affordability. Memory, storage, processor and GPU price increases are expected to weigh on demand, particularly in mainstream consumer and entry-level commercial PCs.

The tablet market is projected to grow 2.1% to 5 million units, supported by delayed education tenders.

India’s education PC segment fell 5% in 2025, but the execution of the ELCOT deal late in the year may provide momentum in 2026. Education procurement is expected to grow 14%, even as the wider commercial PC market declines 8%. Analysts note that education tenders remain a critical factor shaping India’s PC market trajectory.
