Electric Vehicles: Tata Motors Collaborates With Haryana Renewable Agency

Tata Motors has entered into a partnership with Haryana Renewable Agency to deploy electric vehicles in the state of Haryana. The automaker, under the partnership will be deploying 150 Nexon EV cars in the state.

EESL, during July 2020, had floated a tender to procure 250 electric cars. The tender was won by Tata Motors and Hyundai. The latter will also be deploying 100 Kona EVs in Haryana. EESL has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Haryana government. The MoU warrants acceleration of EV in the state.

EESL has already deployed 1514 electric vehicles on road till date, under the National E-Mobility Program. The company said that the same had helped reduce 5360 tonnes of CO2 emissions so far. EESL noted that it is also working assiduously towards accelerating the EV adoption in India. The company is aggressively working towards building a robust EV charging ecosystem in the country. As on date, 534 Captive chargers (342 AC & 192 DC) have also been commissioned in State/UT of Andaman & Nicobar Island, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The Government of India had launched the National E-Mobility Program in 2018. The objective of this program is to create a sustainable demand for e-vehicles, promote domestic manufacturing for both EVs and lithium-ion battery, reduce oil imports and GHG emissions from the transport sector.

EV sales in India clocked 3.8 lakh units in 2019-20, and the EV battery market stood at 5.4GWh during the year. The electric two-wheelers were the highest selling in the entire segment last fiscal. The report said that low and medium-speed electric two-wheelers (up to 40 kmph) with conventional lead-acid batteries were dominating the market.

The electric vehicle (EV) market in India is expected to hit over 63 lakh unit mark per annum by 2027 as per a report by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA).
