The recently held LED Expo in Mumbai saw more than 160 exhibitors from six countries and two day affair also highlighted an update on government schemes, LED lighting standards and certification as well as initiatives, policies and programmes supporting energy efficiency through Bureau of Energy Efficiency’s experience in 2015.
The summit saw S K Marwah, Director, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (DeitY) addressing the audience and sharing his views on LED growth in the country. He said “the current market size of LED manufacturing is $1.8 billion and this is slated to reach at $3.6 by year 2020. The focus is on Indian manufacturing and 50 per cent will be domestic manufacturing.”
The Narendra Modi government has been encouraging manufacturing of LEDs in the country under the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the government is also providing lot of incentives to those companies who are setting up LED manufacturing base in the country.
The central government also launched a UJALA scheme under which it has been distributing LED bulbd at subsidised rates in many states. The government wants to implement LED in full swing in the country.
