By using LED bulbs, electricity consumption has reduced at three railway stations in Pune. Railway authorities has said that they have installed LEDs at Pune, Talegaon and Shivajinagar stations, which has helped in reducing the daily consumption by 100KW and lead to savings worth Rs 15,000 a day. This is huge in terms of yearly savings for the Indian Railways.
The administration is now planning to install LEDs at Chinchwad and Khadki railway stations. “We are taking elaborate steps to ensure that electricity is saved with the use of LEDs,” divisional railway manager of Pune B K Dadabhoy said.
Moreover, the administration has also almost completed the installation of solar panels at Pune station. The system will generate about 250 units of power a day.
India has been distributing LED bulbs at a cheaper rate to customers under the UJALA scheme, as it believes that LED usage will lead to huge savings in electricity. Moreover the government is fully committed to use green and clean energy in this country.
Indian Railways has also been advocating the usage of green and clean energy and this usage of LED bulbs will now encourage other railway stations across the country to use LEDs and reduce energy costs.
