India is going to play host to world’s largest 750MW solar power plant based in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to be completed by Independence Day, next year. The project will beat America’s 550MW Desert Sunlight solar project in California which was commissioned four days back.
There has been an acquisition of 1500 hectares of land for Rs 4000 crore and the project is going to be completed soon. The government will be inviting tenders from developers by April. The new plant is being set up in a joint venture with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project is likely to attract a production cost of Rs 5 per/unit, which is lower than production cost in any other solar project in the country.
According to S R Mohanty, chief secretary for new and renewable energy, they have plans of inaugurating the plant on August 15, 2016. The plant is going to be developed in three segments of 250 MW each. The acquisition of land is going to be complete by end of the month and more than 90 per cent of the land for the project is owned by the government.
The acquiring of remaining 300 hectares of non-government land is underway.
