To boost their global presence in two-wheeler EVs, MediaTek and Jio Things are collaborating, integrating MediaTek’s chipsets with Jio’s operating system for a seamless customer experience.
On Thursday, semiconductor company Mediatek announced a partnership with JioThings Limited, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms and a provider of IoT solutions, to launch a ‘Made in India’ 4G smart android digital cluster designed for the two-wheeler market.
This partnership will combine MediaTek’s MT8766 and MT8768 chipsets with Jio Things’ digital solutions to enhance their 2W electric vehicle industry presence.
The companies have claimed that the ‘long-term’ collaboration will provide an Android-based smart digital cluster solution both in India and internationally. The JioThings smart digital cluster will use AvniOS, an AOSP-based operating system, offering OEMs an advantage with MediaTek’s chipsets and firmware support.
It will offer real-time data analytics, customisable interfaces, voice control, seamless integration with vehicle controllers, IoT-enabled charging infrastructure, and EV-optimized Smart Battery Management Systems.
Additionally, customers will have access to the “Jio Automotive App Suite,” featuring services like Jio Voice Assistant, JioSaavn, JioPages, JioXploR, and other service bundles, enhancing the experience for two-wheeler users.
Regarding the venture, Jerry Yu, Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Devices Business Group, MediaTek, noted, “This cluster aligns with our vision for the future of 2-wheeler smart dashboards. By providing OEMs with a competitive edge in the fast-growing 2-wheeler EV market, this solution offers early access to MediaTek’s latest technologies and key software features at the OS level.”
On the other hand, Mr. Kiran Thomas, CEO of Jio Platforms, highlighted that this partnership strengthens their commitment to India-led innovation.
The companies estimate that the Indian 2-wheeler EV market will hit ₹100 billion by 2025. In such a scenario, they hope that this venture will meet the rising demand for EVs in the country.
