Wednesday, July 10, 2013: The upcoming 100 MW solar power project in Rajasthan by Reliance has finally received approval for Carbon Credits. The affiliation has been provided by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as stated by Reliance on Tuesday. With this affiliation, the project also becomes the largest of its kind of Concreted Solar Power that has been registered with Clean Development Mechanism Executive Board (CDM – EB), according to company statement.
The CDM registration will now allow the company not only to generate but also sell the power internationally under Certified Emission Reductions (CER). This surely will translate into direct revenues for the company.
Previously, Reliance Powers had already received accreditation for CDM registration for the super-critical technology based power projects. With the present registered capacity, Reliance is now the world’s largest capacity with more than 12,000 MW under its belt. This will also help the company earn 60 million Carbon Credits in the span of the next 10 years.
The CSP project of Reliance is undergoing implementation with a wholly owned subsidiary, the Rajasthan Sun Technique Energy Pvt. Ltd. using a Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector technology. This project is located at Dhursar in the Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan. The project comes with a purchase agreement by the NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd. for a period of 25 years. Till now, the CSP project in Rajasthan was the largest of its kind of investment taken up by a private sector entity.
