Wednesday, November 07, 2013: A meeting was held between Kapil Sibal, Minister for Communications and IT and for Law and Justice and Prof KV Thomas, MoS for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution to review the progress regarding finalisation of standards for 12 medical equipments. It was arrived at that the target date/timeline committed by the Bureau of Indian Standards for finalising the standards for 12 equipments will be strictly adhered to. Medical equipments for which standards are being finalised are:
* Capsule endoscope
* Behind the ear digital programmable hearing aid
* Neuro stimulator
* Sacral & gastric neuromodulation system
* Permanent pacemaker
* Diabetic care devices
* Pulse oximeter
* Electronic stethoscope
* Biochemistry analyser
* ECG machine
* Lungs ventilator
* Mammography for breast cancer
The matter regarding progress of grant of registration under the self-declaration scheme for electronic items was
also discussed. It was decided that all the incomplete applications for grant of registration will be taken up on priority. If necessary, a special cell will be created to dispose this by inviting applications and sort out the matters in one go.
MCIT expressed that BIS should grant registration on fast track basis and the supply chain should not
stop. MCIT asked BIS to reconsider the matter regarding BIS requirement concerning the font size for labelling
on the registered goods.
