Airports Authority of India (AAI), a Miniratna category public sector enterprise, has issued a tender for design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 1 megawatt (MW) grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Vijayawada Airport in Andhra Pradesh.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 76.3 million (US$ 109,170) and the completion timeframe for the project is 45 days from the day of awarding the contract. The deadline for submission of bids is December 12, 2018.
The AAI, a PSU that comes under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is responsible for the management, upgradation and creation of civil aviation infrastructure in the country.
Commitment towards renewable energy
The latest tender by AAI shows its commitment towards the goal of becoming carbon neutral. The PSU is seeking to utilise solar power as a cost-effective and renewable source to fuel operations at several airports all over the country.
Lately, the PSU had issued an EPC tender for 1.2 MW grid-connected solar PV project at Lal Bahadur Shastri International (LBSI) Airport in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Last month, AAI also issued a tender for 1 MW solar PV project at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad and an 8 MW grid-connected solar PV project at Hubballi airport in Karnataka.
In January this year, CIAL Infrastructures Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin International Airport Ltd, had finished the bidding process for setting up of 9.9 MW of grid-connected solar projects at the Cochin Airport. In the same month, a rooftop solar PV project with 700 kW capacity was about to finish at Ahmedabad Airport. The power generated by the project was likely to be utilised for captive consumption at Ahmedabad Airport.
