Eyeing to slash AI compute costs and boost efficiency across India, Akash Systems inks $27 million deal with NxtGen to deliver game-changing diamond-cooled AI servers.
On Wednesday, Akash Systems, a company supported by global investors Peter Thiel and Vinod Khosla, announced that it has signed a $27 million (approximately ₹2.25 billion) contract with NxtGen Datacenter and Cloud Technologies. This partnership will enable Akash to deliver its advanced ‘diamond-cooled’ AI servers across India.
‘Diamond cooling’ is an advanced cooling technology designed for the semiconductor industry. It uses synthetic diamond, the most thermally conductive material known. Diamond’s thermal conductivity, at 2200 W/mK, is five times higher than copper, the next best material. This innovative cooling solution significantly reduces the temperature of graphic processing units (GPU), even in systems that already use liquid cooling.
In this partnership, the servers will help NxtGen offer energy-efficient and cost-effective AI compute services to enterprises throughout India by utilising Nvidia and AMD Gpus, which are cooled by Akash’s diamond cooling technology.
According to the company, the collaboration supports NxtGen’s mission to make AI technology more accessible and affordable for businesses of all sizes.
AS Rajgopal, CEO and MD of NxtGen, explained that the combination of Akash’s diamond cooling, waterless liquid cooling, and advanced GPUs from Nvidia and AMD would significantly improve performance, doubling the performance per watt.
This technology will also reduce AI computing service costs by over 50%, allowing the company to provide AI solutions to customers at lower prices.
NxtGen, based in Bengaluru, operates multiple data centres offering AI computing, disaster recovery, and managed security services. As demand for data centre services grows, the company is expanding its infrastructure.
Akash Systems’ CEO and co-founder, Felix Ejeckam, stated that the diamond-cooled servers will provide NxtGen with unparalleled performance and reliability, reinforcing its leadership in AI and computing solutions.
