AMD has shared plans to make an investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic in the future
AMD and Anthropic have recently collaborated to install up to 2 gigawatts (GW) of AI compute infrastructure powered by AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rack-scale systems. The first 1GW deployment is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
As demand for AI training and inference continues to rise, Anthropic will use AMD Helios rack-scale solutions featuring AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs, AMD Pensando networking, and ROCm software. The deployment builds on Anthropic’s existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs and is designed to support the growing demand for its Claude AI models.
The companies also announced a multi-year engineering collaboration aimed at accelerating AMD’s software development using Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant. The partnership will focus on optimising AI workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs, advancing ROCm software development, and integrating Claude across AMD’s engineering and product development teams.
Additionally, AMD has shared plans to make an investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic in the future.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD, said the collaboration combines Anthropic’s frontier AI capabilities with AMD’s high-performance computing portfolio to accelerate AI adoption at scale and establish Helios as a key platform for next-generation AI infrastructure.
Tom Brown, Co-founder and Chief Compute Officer at Anthropic, said access to large-scale compute capacity is essential for advancing Claude and meeting customer demand. He added that partnering with AMD across the hardware and software stack enables Anthropic to optimise AI workloads while benefiting from a diversified compute infrastructure.
The collaboration showcases a major step towards expansion of AI infrastructure, combining large-scale GPU deployment with long-term engineering collaboration to help the development and implement of next-generation AI systems.
