US chip designer reaches milestone valuation following surge in data-centre revenues and key AI partnerships.
US semiconductor company AMD became the latest technology firm to achieve a $1 trillion market valuation on Monday, propelled by relentless global investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Shares in the California-based group climbed 9.4 per cent to reach $612 in afternoon trading, extending a rapid rally that has added roughly $200 billion to the company’s market capitalisation in just one week.
The surge follows impressive financial performance, with AMD reporting a 50 per cent year-on-year jump in second-quarter revenues to $11.5 billion. Growth was anchored by its data-centre division, where revenues more than doubled compared to the same period last year. Management noted during its quarterly earnings update that data-centre sales are expected to accelerate further throughout the second half of 2026.
AMD’s momentum has been reinforced by strategic commercial ventures with leading AI developers OpenAI and Anthropic. Despite reaching the trillion-dollar threshold, AMD’s valuation still trails rival chip maker Nvidia, the benchmark leader in AI hardware, whose market capitalisation currently approaches $5.5 trillion.
