AMD Technostar to Boost Employment in Bangalore

Spread over 500,000 square feet, the facility will employ 3000 engineers. 

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has inaugurated its largest global design centre in Bengaluru, India, as part of a $400 million investment in the country over the next five years. This new campus, named AMD Technostar, is set to employ about 3,000 engineers who will focus on the design and development of various semiconductor technologies, including 3D stacking, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and others.

The AMD Technostar campus will primarily focus on creating cutting-edge products in high-performance central processing units (CPUs) for data centres and personal computers (PCs), graphic processing units (GPUs) for data centres and gaming, as well as adaptive systems-on-chip (SoCs) and field programmable gate array (FPGAs) for embedded devices.

Jaya Jagadish, India Country Head, AMD said, “ This new facility marks the next milestone in our growth journey to be a significant contributor in the advancement of semiconductors.”

Spread over 500,000 square feet, the campus is designed to encourage collaboration and innovation, featuring modern R&D labs over 60,000 square feet, a demo centre, an art and craft inspired cafeteria capable of hosting over 2000 employees, and wellness facilities including a gym and yoga centre.

The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics and Information Technology, along with AMD’s executive team including Mark Papermaster, David Wang, Brian Amick, and Andrej Zdravkovic.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications & Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India said, “India’s semiconductor program launched under the leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays strong emphasis on supporting the design and talent ecosystem for semiconductors. AMD setting up its largest design centre in Bengaluru is a testament to the confidence global companies have in India.”
