It’s a kind of first step towards Taiwan and South India in the semiconductor sector.
To boost semiconductor cooperation between Taiwan and India, Chennai Institute of Technology (CIT Chennai), National Formosa University (NFU), Taiwan, and AGEM Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote joint semiconductor research, talent development, and industry-academia collaboration.
It’s a kind of first step towards Taiwan and South India in the semiconductor sector. It makes a joint research, student and faculty training, knowledge exchange, and innovation-driven cooperation aimed at boosting the semiconductor ecosystem in both regions.
Highlighting the growing economic partnership, TECC stated that bilateral trade between Taiwan and India increased from US$10.6 billion in 2024 to a record US$12.5 billion in 2025. Trade momentum has remained strong in 2026, with approximately 30% year-on-year growth so far.
Taiwan’s business presence in India has also expanded significantly. More than 300 Taiwanese companies are currently operating across the country, with nearly 75% based in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Their cumulative investments have crossed US$5.7 billion, reflecting the region’s growing importance as a manufacturing and technology hub.
The semiconductor collaboration is expected to further deepen Taiwan-India ties by fostering skilled talent, accelerating research, and supporting the development of a robust semiconductor value chain aligned with both countries’ strategic technology and manufacturing ambitions.
