Hans India reported that Energy department said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced another 15 lakh street lights (out of total target of 30 Lakh) to rural areas as a gift of Ugadi, as part of efforts to make AP as one of the best energy efficient States in the world.

This will significantly change the appearance of villages and lead to brighter streets and enhance a feeling of safety and security among residents eventually giving people a better quality of life. Gram panchayats are also expected to get a net financial benefit of Rs.500 crore and energy savings of 333 MU in the next 10 years with this initiative.
