Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA), on behalf of the Ministry of Interiors (MOI), has announced a tender for developing and operating a combined solar plus Electric Vehicle (EV) charging project on MOI premises.

The MEWA tender has invited potential bidders to take part in a “Request for Proposal (RFP)” aiming to construct, possess, operate, and sustain a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with a minimum capacity of 15.5 MWac (Megawatt AC).

This power plant will be connected to the grid and located on building rooftops and car parks, with provisions for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The Bahrain Tender Board has announced this opportunity.

The contract duration for this project is set at 20 years. It is important to note that the fixed tariff rate submitted by bidders should not exceed 21 fils per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Interested parties can acquire the RFP documents until January 30, 2024. The submission deadline is March 31, 2024, and the tender opening is April 1, 2024.

To participate, the primary bidder, whether an individual company or a consortium, must be a local or GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) company registered in Bahrain or the GCC countries. International companies can only participate if they join consortiums. Furthermore, bidders must have successfully completed solar PV projects, including grid-tied solar PV projects, solar PV car park projects, or solar PV rooftop projects with a combined capacity of at least 10 MWac in the last five years.
