Battery Smart Partners With Zepto To Expand EV Charging

Battery Smart has formed a partnership with Zepto, a move that expands access to over 1000 EV charging stations for delivery agents.

Battery Smart announced its collaboration with e-commerce service Zepto on Monday. This alliance will enable Zepto delivery partners to access over 1000 battery swapping stations of Battery Smart in more than 30 Indian cities. Additionally, this will enable Zepto to integrate 10,000 new electric vehicles into its fleet during the fiscal year 2024-25.

Battery Smart and Zepto aim to facilitate electric vehicle adoption for delivery partners through this strategic partnership. They are offering EVs without batteries, using Battery Smart’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for cost savings. This will boost affordability and accessibility, aiding delivery services’ shift to sustainable transportation options.

In their official statement, Battery Smart has claimed that  Zepto’s delivery partners will experience no charging downtimes using their solution, ensuring timely deliveries and avoiding revenue loss.

Yogiraj Gogia, Battery Smart’s Senior Director of Partnerships and Fleet Business, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “We’re excited to join forces with Zepto to facilitate eco-friendly last-mile deliveries and encourage more delivery partners to embrace the EV revolution. Zepto’s impressive growth in the past year is commendable, and with access to our expanding network of swap stations, we anticipate further expansion as they deploy more EVs in their fleet,” he said.

Vikas Sharma, Zepto’s COO, emphasised their commitment to electrifying their vehicle fleet for efficient and sustainable last-mile deliveries. He highlighted the partnership will ensure their delivery partners are always close to a swap station. The proximity will minimise wait time and enable them to complete more deliveries, ultimately increasing earnings.

At present, electric vehicles (EVs) account for a significant 20% portion of India’s last-mile delivery market, in line with the government’s goal of reaching 30% electrification of the nation’s vehicle fleet by 2030.

Battery Smart has strategically established stations across various cities in Haryana, NCR, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and most recently, Maharashtra. Founded in 2019, Battery Smart aims to simplify EV adoption. They’ve completed 35 million+ battery swaps, set up over 1000 swap stations, and collaborate with more than 45,000 vehicles in 30+ cities.
