Bentley will invest £350 million at its Crewe headquarters to build the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle, strengthening UK-based EV manufacturing and its domestic supplier network.
Bentley is investing £350 million at its Crewe headquarters to build the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle, placing EV manufacturing and automotive electronics at the centre of its next UK production phase.
The Torcal will be designed, engineered, and manufactured in Britain, with Bentley working with a network of British suppliers. The investment is also supporting upgrades to the Crewe facility, including new manufacturing, design and logistics capabilities, alongside workforce training and skills development.
The investment will sustain around 4,000 existing jobs at Crewe, where Bentley has been headquartered for 80 years. Dr Frank-Steffan Walliser, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, said, “The Torcal is a Bentley first and foremost, but it is also a powerful statement about our confidence in Britain as a centre of design, engineering and manufacturing excellence.”
Walliser added that the vehicle “demonstrates how investment, innovation and craftsmanship can come together to create a world-leading luxury product”.
Bentley’s announcement takes new UK automotive investment announced within one week to £1.02 billion, following £500 million from McLaren and £170 million from Nissan.
UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said, “Bentley’s announcement is the third win in just seven days for our world-class automotive industry, which truly shows the confidence that businesses have in Britain.”
The investment comes as Jaguar Land Rover plans to cut costs by around £1.7 billion over two years, including proposed voluntary redundancies.
