CCPA has fined Xboom ₹10 lakh and tightened online controls on RF jammers and anti-drone electronics over licensing, authorisation and disclosure requirements.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a ₹10 lakh penalty on Xboom for listing, hosting and advertising anti-drone systems, drone jammers and GPS jammers without disclosing applicable licensing and regulatory requirements. The order was issued on 17 September 2026, with the penalty being the maximum prescribed for a first contravention under Section 21 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
The CCPA identified six products — X-Mini, X-Radar XK2, X-Eye, X-Gun XK4, RF-Patrol XK2 and XGaurd — and barred Xboom from listing, advertising, promoting or offering such equipment unless valid statutory approvals and licences are obtained and prominently displayed.
The requirements cited by the authority may include WPC/DoT Equipment Type Approval, DGFT licensing, MHA/Cabinet Secretariat authorisation and licences under the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933. Xboom must also establish KYC and end-use authorisation mechanisms for authenticated government, defence or law-enforcement buyers where required.
The CCPA said an enquiry-based sales model does not remove a listing from the definition of an advertisement. It also rejected Xboom’s reliance on a November 2025 MoU, stating: “The MoU is not itself a licence, certificate, or Government authorisation of any description, and does not purport to be one,” according to the order issued by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra.
The action follows CCPA notices issued to six entities in February 2026 and its 2022 advisory against facilitating wireless-jammer sales, tightening scrutiny of specialised RF and counter-drone electronics online.
