BlackBerry QNX Lands Record SDV Software Design Win

BlackBerry QNX has secured its largest design win to date, with Coretura selecting Alloy Kore as the safety-certified software foundation for its software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform. The deal adds more than $100 million to QNX’s royalty backlog and marks the first design win for Alloy Kore.

Developed jointly by QNX and Vector Informatik, Alloy Kore combines QNX’s safety-certified real-time operating system with Vector’s pre-integrated automotive middleware and system services for high-performance computing (HPC) architectures in commercial vehicles.

Coretura, a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo Group, selected Alloy Kore as the foundational software layer for its SDV architecture. The platform is designed to reduce software integration overhead, accelerate development cycles and streamline certification, allowing vehicle manufacturers to focus engineering resources on applications.

The selection was made through Vector Distribution, which combines the Alloy Kore architecture with Vector’s middleware, communication and integration capabilities for HPC deployment.

“Coretura is building the software-defined vehicle platform this industry needs, and they have chosen Alloy Kore as the certified foundational software layer beneath it,” said John Wall, President, QNX.

Dr. Matthias Traub, President and Managing Director, Vector, said the industry needs “an open, production-ready software foundation” to manage complexity and accelerate innovation.

Coretura says it is bringing together more than 130 engineers from over 15 countries to build one platform and standard for commercial vehicles.
